Picnic for the Planet – Cache River Wetlands

Earth Day – Sunday, April 22 (Noon – 3 pm)
Cache River Wetlands Center

On Sunday, April 22nd, The Nature Conservancy will celebrate the planet we live on with good food and great company.  Join us for Picnic for the Planet and be part of the world’s largest – and most delicious – Earth Day celebration.   Picnics will be happening across the globe.  In southern Illinois, we will be celebrating our conservation work on the Cache River by hosting a fun, old fashioned picnic at the Cache River Wetlands Center from Noon – 3 pm.  Grab your blanket and pack a lunch for an afternoon of nature themed activities, kids crafts and of course…food.  Locally raised salad greens and fresh baked bread, donated by the Neighborhood Co-op Grocery will be served along with cookies and lemonade.  Take home a bur oak tree sapling to plant in your backyard.  This event will be held rain or shine.  Reservations are encouraged, but not required.   For more information, directions to the Wetlands Center or to RSVP contact 618-634-2524 or mandy.wolfe@tnc.org.   In addition, we are also encouraging nature lovers to host their own picnic on April 22 at any natural area in the southern Illinois region.   For more information on how to host your own picnic and be part of this global event, visit www.nature.org/earthday.
