[ January 28, 2012; 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. ] Four times between February and June, volunteers gear up with thermometers, clipboards, and data sheets to venture out into the evening to conduct frog and toad audible surveys in the Cache River watershed. Volunteers who want to take part in this state wide monitoring program can join us at this orientation on January 28th from 1 pm to 3 pm to learn more about the population trends of Illinois’ frogs & toads. [ January 7, 2012; 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. February 4, 2012; 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. ] Bundle up and join us at Bellrose Waterfowl Reserve, an area typically closed to the public, to witness the majestic sight of ducks and geese arriving at sunset to roost on the icy water. Bellrose Waterfowl Reserve includes 400 acres of wetlands that are managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to provide food and shelter for waterfowl during migration. Staff will provide spotting scopes and binoculars. Please call ahead in the event of inclement weather or freezing temperatures (if the water freezes, there may not be many birds to watch!). 2 Movie Nights at the Cache--Is That a Skunk? 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm First Thursday of the Month, 7pm - 9pm Location: Cache River Wetlands Center Grab your family and friends for a relaxing evening with your fellow nature lovers. Movies about nature will provide viewers of all ages with a fun way to learn about the outside world. This year’s movie series theme will be, “Game Species: More Than Just Food”. We will focus on the natural history of hunted species found within the Cache River watershed in order to better understand their role not only in our ecosystem, but within our everyday lives. The AmeriCorps staff will hold a short discussion about the movie after each session. Don’t miss this monthly opportunity to appreciate nature with the local community. 11 Cache River Nature Fest 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Join us on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 for the annual Cache River Nature Fest! We will have a variety of exhibits and activities for the whole family! These include various bird exhibits to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day and guided hikes and canoe tours to celebrate our beautiful refuge. So come on out and join the fun!
